This Buddhism Shyama Tara thangka is a rare, sacred art piece painted on cotton canvas with detailed work in the Karma Gadri style. According to Buddhist tradition, Tara is believed to be the embodiment of compassion and a savior who helps remove obstacles. Historically, she is said to have originated from the tears of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. The Shyama Tara thangka portrays Green Tara, known for compassion and protection. Her celestial presence, amid clouds, highlights her role as a compassionate, wise being. She gestures protectively with one hand and raises the other to help seekers.

In the lower part of the thangka, the scene on the ground adds depth to the spiritual story. At the bottom, people are shown praying, their hands joined in devotion to Tara, symbolizing surrender and seeking her guidance. Surrounding them are Nagakanya figures, mythological serpent beings who offer blessings and represent the power to purify negative energies and provide protection. The scene also features a palace, symbolizing the divine realm where Tara resides, representing the spiritual kingdom that her followers aspire to reach. The detailed figures at the base create a strong contrast to the celestial scene above, illustrating the connection between the earthly and divine. Green Tara acts as the bridge between both realms, guiding and protecting all who seek her help.
