Sacred Tibetan Vajra (Dorje): For Empowerment Ceremonies & Altar Use

The Vajra (Dorje in Tibetan) is one of the most iconic and spiritually potent ritual implements in Vajrayana Buddhism, a symbol so central to the tradition that "Vajrayana," the Diamond Vehicle, takes its name directly from it. Representing skillful method (upaya), the Vajra embodies the indestructible, diamond-like nature of the enlightened mind, a quality that cannot be cut, broken, burned, or destroyed by any of the afflictive emotions.

Held in the right hand during sadhana practice, the Vajra is the active counterpart to the Bell's wisdom, and its precise form, central sphere flanked by prongs emerging from lotus blossoms on either side, encodes deep cosmological and tantric symbolism regarding the transformation of ordinary mind into the five wisdoms of the Buddha families. Beyond its role in ritual pairing with the Bell, the Vajra is also held alone during specific mudras, placed upon the altar as a symbol of unshakeable realization, and used in empowerment ceremonies to transmit blessings from teacher to student.

Our Collection Highlights

Each Vajra in our collection is purely handmade in Nepal by skilled artisans, with careful attention to traditional proportions, symbolism, and durability, suitable for daily practice, formal ceremony, and altar display.

Materials Available

  • Gold-Plated Vajra: Luxurious and ceremonial-quality, suited for formal empowerments and high altar offerings.
  • Silver Vajra: Auspicious and elegant, traditionally associated with clarity and purity.
  • Copper Vajra: Traditional, long-lasting, and energetically vibrant, ideal for daily practice.
  • Brass Vajra: Sturdy and timeless, widely used in monasteries and retreat centers.
  • Ethically Sourced Bone Vajra: Sacred and rare, used in tantric rituals to invoke impermanence and non-attachment.
  • Crystal Vajra: Amplifies spiritual energy and purity, often used in healing practices and clarity-oriented meditation.

Types of Vajra

  • 5-Pronged Vajra: The most widely used form, symbolizing the five Buddha families and the transformation of the five afflictions into the five wisdoms.
  • 9-Pronged Vajra: Represents the nine yanas and advanced spiritual power, used in higher tantric practice and ceremonial offerings.
  • Double Vajra (Vishvavajra): Two crossed Vajras forming a cross, signifying indestructible stability, protection, and mastery of all directions.
  • Single-Pronged Vajra: A simpler, pointed form associated with specific wrathful and protective practices.
