Sacred Tibetan Serkyem Offering Vessels: Drink Offering Sets for Dharma Protector Pujas, Monastery Altars & Daily Practice

The Serkyem (gSer skyems in Tibetan, literally "golden drink offering") is one of the most important and frequently used ritual vessels in Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhist practice, dedicated specifically to the propitiation and offering of sustenance to the Dharma protectors (Chökyong) and oath-bound guardian deities who safeguard the Buddhist teachings and their practitioners. Comprising two vessels, a lower wide-rimmed tray or basin and an upper tall-spouted cup mounted above it on a central stem, the Serkyem is filled with a sacred offering liquid, traditionally tea, alcohol, or a mixture of milk and saffron, which is poured from the upper spouted vessel into the lower basin below during the offering prayer.

This cascading golden liquid is the Serkyem's defining gesture: a continuous, generous pouring that symbolizes the unstinting offering of sustenance, pleasure, and nourishment to the assembled protectors, requesting in return their active support, protection from obstacles, and the swift accomplishment of virtuous activities. The Serkyem appears on virtually every Tibetan Buddhist monastery altar and is used in daily protector pujas, Mahakala practice, Palden Lhamo offerings, Dorje Shugden ceremonies, and a wide range of other protector and guardian invocation practices.

Our Collection Highlights

Each Serkyem in our collection is hand-crafted in Nepal by master artisans trained in the traditional proportions and decorative conventions of Tibetan Buddhist protector offering vessels. Available across a range of materials, finishes, sizes, and elaboration levels, they are suited for daily protector puja, formal ceremony, and significant altar installation.

  • Ceremonial Serkyem Sets: Premium large-scale pieces featuring gold and silver mixed-metal bodies with richly detailed repousse ornamentation across both vessels, the most elaborate and significant offering pieces available, suited for principal monastery altars and the highest-level protector ceremonies.
  • Handmade Serkyem Sets: Beautifully proportioned gold and silver mixed-metal sets with traditional floral and auspicious repoussé detailing across the basin, stem, and upper cup, an excellent balance of craft quality and accessibility for serious practitioners.
  • Himalayan Serkyem Sets: Warm gold-toned pieces with clean, classical proportions and consistent decorative banding, a refined and versatile choice suited for both daily practice and formal altar arrangement.
  • Sacred Serkyem Offering Sets: Compact copper-bodied pieces with traditional engraved detailing, offering an accessible and energetically vibrant entry point into daily Serkyem practice.
  • Copper Serkyem Sets with Engraving: Classically proportioned copper vessels with hand-engraved surface detailing, traditional, durable, and well-suited for daily protector puja and regular ceremonial use.
  • Gold & Silver Mixed-Metal Serkyem: Featuring the distinctive combination of gold-plated upper elements with silver-bodied lower basins, creating a visually striking and symbolically rich offering vessel.
  • Figure-Adorned Serkyem Sets: Exceptional pieces featuring sculptural figures, typically auspicious attendants or deity forms, integrated into the base or stem of the Serkyem, elevating the offering vessel into a work of devotional sculpture.
  • Plain Copper Serkyem: Simple, traditionally proportioned copper Serkyem vessels suited for daily protector practice, accessible in price while maintaining the correct ritual form and function.
