About Our Product

This Tibetan Mahakala Ritual Phurba is hand carved from ethically sourced buffalo bone and shaped as a sacred ritual dagger associated with protection, spiritual discipline, and the removal of obstacles. Its tall form is supported by a carved pedestal and crowned with an ornamental finial, giving the piece a strong ceremonial presence. Detailed facial expressions, lotus inspired bands, skull imagery, and layered decorative motifs reflect the traditional symbolism found in Himalayan Buddhist ritual art.

The upper section features a fierce Mahakala face, representing the powerful protection of the Dharma and the compassionate destruction of harmful forces. Below it, additional wrathful carvings and ornamental bands lead toward the three sided blade, a defining feature of the phurba. The triple blade traditionally symbolizes the transformation of ignorance, attachment, and aversion, while the skull motif near the base reminds practitioners of impermanence and the importance of awakening. Each carved element contributes to the phurba’s meaning as an instrument of focused spiritual energy.

This sacred Buddhist dagger may be displayed on a Vajrayana altar, placed within a meditation room, or included in a collection of traditional ritual objects. In spiritual practice, the phurba represents the stabilizing of negative energy and the overcoming of inner and outer obstacles. Combined with Mahakala’s protective presence, this hand carved ritual piece encourages courage, clarity, peace, and unwavering dedication on the path toward enlightenment.

Introduction To The Phurba :

The ceremonial dagger (Sanskrit: Kila; Tibetan: phurba) is essential for expelling evil and is considered particularly effective in neutralizing the forces obstructing Tantric Buddhist practice. It has ancient origins, first appearing in the Indian Rig Veda as the core blade of the vajra used by Indra to destroy the primordial cosmic snake Vritra. Kila, derived from Sanskrit, was most likely associated with Vedic sacrifices. Meditation on the Vajrakila Tantra, an early Indian scripture first promoted in Tibet in the eighth century by Padmasambhava, one of the founding teachers of Tibetan Buddhism, is used to invoke the three-headed Vajrakila Buddha.
