About Our Product
This Scared Altar Kartika Knife with Stand is a sacred Vajrayana ritual object crafted from a copper body, detailed with gold and acrylic color. Measuring 46 cm in height, 26 cm in length, and 15 cm in width, with a weight of 4.68 kg, this striking altar piece carries a powerful spiritual presence for Buddhist shrines, meditation rooms, ritual displays, and sacred decor. The Kartika is deeply connected with wisdom, protection, transformation, and the cutting away of ignorance on the path toward enlightenment.
The design features a large crescent shaped Kartika blade supported by an ornate display stand, allowing the ritual object to be presented with dignity on an altar or shrine. At the top, multiple headed deities are depicted, expressing the fierce protective energy found in Vajrayana ritual symbolism. Makara motifs are also shown, adding traditional Himalayan imagery connected with guardianship, spiritual power, and the crossing beyond obstacles. On the stand, a Bishwo Vajra is displayed, symbolizing indestructible wisdom, protection in all directions, and spiritual stability.
In Tibetan Buddhist practice, the Kartika is not treated as an ordinary knife, but as a symbolic tool of spiritual clarity and inner transformation. Its curved blade represents cutting through ego, attachment, confusion, and negative forces, while the deity figures, makara details, and Bishwo Vajra deepen its protective meaning. Placed on an altar, this ritual Kartika becomes a reminder of courage, devotion, peace, and the wisdom needed to overcome obstacles on the path toward enlightenment.
Introduction To The Kartika Knife :
While the Kartika is used in many Buddhist rituals, generally in connection with the kapala (skullcap), it is especially essential in the Tibetan practice of Chöd, a ritual involving self-sacrifice in which the practitioner visualizes their own body as an offering at a tantric feast. The Kartika is also famous for its use in the Tibetan sky burial ritual, where dead bodies are cut into small pieces and left on top of special gats or burial platforms for the vultures to consume. Unexpectedly, the Kartika is also used in Feng Shui practice.
