Oxidized Copper Vajra Dorje - Ritual Object of Compassion & Wisdom
About Our Ritual Vajra :
This 55 cm Tibetan Vajra, also known as a Dorje, is a ceremonial object with a copper body that has been oxidized to enhance its traditional appearance. With a weight of 0.70 kg, it is a powerful symbol of the combining of wisdom and compassion and is highly regarded in both Hinduism and Vajrayana Buddhism. Through its design and symbolic meaning, the Vajra inspires attention and strength in rituals, symbolizing the practitioner's path to enlightenment.
The five-pronged structure at each end of the Vajra symbolizes the five Buddha families and the transformation of the five major delusions—ignorance, attachment, aversion, pride, and jealousy—into enlightened wisdom. The central prong, surrounded by the four outside prongs, symbolizes harmony, while the central sphere represents shunyata, or emptiness. This design captures the idea of unity by bringing all characteristics and orientations together to represent the Vajra's stabilizing influence over dualities, supporting reality's non-dual nature.
The Vajra is a popular symbol in Tibetan Buddhist rituals, representing indestructibility and stability, both of which are required to overcome spiritual problems. In rituals, the Vajra is typically combined with a bell, representing compassion and knowledge. They work together to guide practitioners along a balanced road to enlightenment, combining compassion and wisdom.
Introduction to Vajra :
An instrument symbolizing vajra is also extensively used in tantra rituals. It consists of a spherical central section, with two symmetrical sets of five prongs, which arc out from lotus blooms on either side of the sphere and come to a point at two points equidistant from the center, thus giving it the appearance of a "diamond scepter," which is how the term is sometimes translated.
