Traditional Buddhist Offering Serkyem - Ritual Vessel for Devotion
About Our Serkyem
This Traditional Buddhist Offering Serkyem is expertly created from durable copper, reflecting a timeless link to sacred rites. This Serkyem stands 18.5 cm tall, 16 cm wide, and weighs 0.48 kg, making it the ideal combination of functionality and spiritual elegance. It is revered for its religious importance and is an important tool in Buddhist ceremonial offerings, where it is frequently used to bring holy beverages or libations to deities as a show of devotion and thanks. Its polished copper surface emanates radiance, emphasizing its function as a conduit for blessings and spiritual virtue.
The Serkyem is designed to be symbolic and purposeful, with two different but harmonized sections. The wide, flat bowl-shaped base indicates stability and receptiveness, while the top, shaped like a Buddhist butter lamp, represents the offering of light and wisdom. Together, they form a vessel with great spiritual meaning. During rituals, the sacred drink pours from the top to the bottom, representing the deities' endless generosity and compassion. The craftsmanship exemplifies wonderful Buddhist aesthetics, highlighting its dual position as a sacred object and a work of art. This Serkyem acts as a link between the physical and divine realms, making it a vital complement to any spiritual practice.
Introduction to Serkyem
The Serkyem, also known as Golden Drink, is part of the Dharma Protector's practice. In Tibetan, Ser means "golden," and Kyem means "beverage."
It is offered by pouring the beverage into a cup-like wine glass and placing it into a lower bowl. The beverage is poured into the cup during the offering, where the liquid overflows into the lower bowl. The symbol of the overflowing liquid is highly auspicious because it represents an abundant flow of merits.
