We have had this Thangka in our collection for over 20 years now. Our thangka was stored away for several years. We were thrilled to discover the quality and depth of these beautiful thangkas when we unveiled them and decided to showcase them online for everyone.\
Introduction to Avalokiteshvara Mandala Painting
Avalokiteshvara with 1000 arms and 1000 eyes. Avalokiteshvara is praised by all the Buddhas. He is the embodiment of the compassion of all the Victorious Ones. As Chandrakirti wrote in his ‘Entering into the Middle Way’ - compassion is important in the beginning, middle and end of the path. Buddhas and Bodhisattvas have great qualities of body, speech and mind based on minds that are rooted in compassion. To begin with all the Buddhas generated the awakening mind of bodhichitta based on their having a courageous heart of compassion. By serving others they fulfil their own purposes—because they have compassion.
Chenrezig is one of the most popular Bodhisattva in Vajrayana. It is celebrated and placed among the heart of every Tibetan Himalayan community.
The practice of Avalokiteshvara is encouraged to develop a calm and compassionate heart. Compassion is the root foundation for excelling in the Buddhist path. Kind, Calm, and Open Mind is only possible if we are compassionate. Avalokiteshvara Thangka is used to do visual meditation practice to develop a calm, kind, and compassionate heart.
Mandala is a tool for meditation or contemplative object used to illustrate various aspects of Buddha’s teachings, meditative instruction, or the cosmological representation of the pure microcosm (pure mandala) of the deity.
