About our Mala Counter:
This Tibetan Chupsel Set is a traditional mala counter Tibetan Buddhists use to count mantra recitations. Each counter is made of iron, with a coiled bead structure and stupa-like terminal beads strung on a black thread. These mala counters, measuring 21cm long and weighing only 0.070kg, are lightweight and straightforward to attach to any regular prayer mala (typically in the guru bead position).
Chupsels are essential instruments (mantra repetition), allowing practitioners to track thousands of recitations without losing concentration. To precisely track your spiritual growth, this set includes left and right strands, each commonly representing ten or one hundred units. These counters are ideal for monks, meditators, and spiritual searchers since they combine functionality and cultural importance while remaining loyal to the original Himalayan heritage.
Introduction to Buddhist Chupsel (Mala Counter):
Mala counters are designed tools to track and count many mantra recitations in various Tibetan and Vajrayana traditions. They offer multiple methods for keeping an accurate count. The Mala is a convenient means to organize and track your recitations.
For every rotation of the Mala, while reciting a mantra, it's equivalent to counting one hundred mantras. Additionally, eight extra beads are incorporated into the Mala, which act as a "safety zone" to account for any minor counting errors.
Here's how the counting process works: After reciting one hundred mantras (completing one cycle), move one of the counter beads on one side of your Mala Counter (side A). When you complete ten cycles, which adds up to one thousand mantras, you shift all ten counter beads back to their original positions. Then, you move one of the counter beads on the other side of your Mala Counter (side B). This signifies that you've completed one thousand mantras. By repeating this process multiple times, you can efficiently keep track of and achieve your goal of reciting ten thousand mantras.
