Sankha (Conch Shell): Primordial Sound of Dharma

As one of the oldest sacred instruments known to humans, the conch shell (called Sankha in Sanskrit and Dungkar in Tibetan) has been played for thousands of years in Buddhist temples, Hindu shrines, and monasteries in the Himalayas. Its deep, resonant call cleanses the space, invites close attention to the holy, and sounds like the Buddha's first turn of the dharma wheel. Our Sankha collection includes both natural conch shells and beautifully decorated ones made by skilled Nepalese artisans for ritual use. In both Buddhist and Hindu traditions, it is one of the most important sacred objects: a vessel of divine sound, a symbol of dharma, and a purifier of space and mind.
