Tibetan Chundi Meditation Art | Traditional Thangka
Chundi Meditation Art is hand-painted by skilled artists in the Kathmandu Valley, preserving the sacred traditions of Himalayan thangka painting through meticulous workmanship. The intricate details of Chundi, such as her dynamic posture, symbolic qualities, and sacred ornaments, are supported by a robust and delicately textured canvas that was painted on handmade cotton canvas using ancient processes. Genuine 24K gold is painstakingly employed to accent celestial jewelry, ritual tools, and decorative elements, producing a brilliant spiritual presence. Vibrant acrylic colors are painted in layers to give the composition depth, clarity, and harmony. In addition to reflecting the skill of Tibetan Buddhist arts, the combination of handmade canvas, premium colors, and gold detailing embodies Chundi's attributes of protection, purification, and transformational energy for practitioners.
Chundi Bodhisattva, also known as the "Mother of Seventy Million Buddhas," is a highly revered cosmic manifestation of the perfection of wisdom. Shakyamuni Buddha's Sanskrit name, which means "Supreme Purity," highlights her major spiritual role in erasing worldly impediments, purifying deeply ingrained negative karma, and providing strong maternal care to suffering people. Her 18 fanned-out arms, which represent the 18 rare merits necessary to achieve full Buddhahood, and her beautiful snow-white skin set her out iconographically. She serves as a multi-armed, approachable version of Avalokiteshvara. Her esoteric practice is particularly well-known for teaching about the illusory nature of reality using a polished metallic mirror.
