About The Ritual Item :
This handcrafted Tantric Phurba set, made of oxidized copper, is an effective Vajrayana Buddhist ritual instrument for protection, energy transformation, and spiritual purification. It is 47 cm tall, 38 cm wide, and 22.24 kg. This hefty and meticulously constructed set is a sacred instrument in Tibetan Buddhism, respected for suppressing negative energies and eliminating spiritual barriers.
This exquisite Phurba set includes twenty-five dagger-style Phurbas, each carved with the heads of various creatures, such as horses, boars, and elephants, to signify diverse spiritual concepts. A taller Phurba, depicting Heruka, stands in the center, with a half Vajra on top of his head and a full Vajra below his neck, indicating power and enlightenment. The center Phurba has three skull heads carved at its base, adding to its sacred and protecting meaning. This central Phurba stands out from the rest of the set for its height and spiritual significance.
Each of the smaller Phurbas is ornamented with a Garuda perched at the top of the three-sided blade, which is further embellished with floral carvings directly above the Garuda's head and on the blade itself. Each Phurba has a three-sided blade with two snakes coiled around it, representing duality, balance, and the merging of opposites. The snakes add to the set's message of spiritual strength, protection, and transformation.
The complete set is supported by a wonderfully sculpted base featuring many skull heads, each with little gemstones inserted in their eyes, contributing to the piece's powerful and magical aura. The base's craftsmanship supports the Phurba's spiritual protection and strength, making it more than just a ceremonial weapon but also a stunning artistic creation with symbolic value.
Introduction To The Phurba :
The ceremonial dagger (Sanskrit: Kila; Tibetan: phurba) is essential for expelling evil and is considered especially effective in neutralizing the forces obstructing Tantric Buddhist practice. It has ancient origins, first appearing in the Indian Rg Veda as the core blade of the vajra used by Indra to destroy the primordial cosmic snake Vritra. Kila, a peg or stake in Sanskrit, was most likely associated with Vedic sacrifices. Meditation on the Vajrakila Tantra, an early Indian scripture first promoted in Tibet in the eighth century by Padmasambhava, one of the founding teachers of Tibetan Buddhism, is used to invoke the three-headed Vajrakila Buddha.
