Hand-Painted Traditional Wheel Of Life Thangka | Meditation Altar
The Traditional Wheel of Life Thangka serves as a sacred mirror of existence, illustrating key Buddhist teachings on karma, rebirth, impermanence, and freedom. Skilled artists from the Kathmandu Valley carefully hand-painted the artwork on handmade cotton canvas using traditional Himalayan techniques. Acrylic colors add richness to the six kingdoms, symbolic figures, and detailed story scenes, while genuine 24K gold highlights the fires, divine forms, and sacred outlines, giving them a bright spiritual shine.
The Wheel of Life Thangka, also known as the Bhavachakra, is a sacred Buddhist symbol depicting the cycle of samsara, in which beings experience birth, death, karma, and reincarnation. In the thangka, Yama, the Lord of Impermanence, grips the entire wheel in his claws, serving as a reminder that earthly existence is influenced by time, change, and death. At the center of the wheel, the pig, snake, and rooster represent ignorance, wrath, and attachment—collectively known as the three poisons—that trap beings in a state of suffering. Surrounding these central figures are the six realms of existence, which portray various stages of life, including humans, deities, animals, hungry ghosts, demigods, and hell beings. Each depiction functions as a visual lesson, urging viewers to understand karma, recognize suffering, and strive for enlightenment, compassion, and liberation.
