Introduction to Mangoose
The magical god Ninkilim, also known as Ningirama, who is prayed for protection from serpents, held mongooses in high regard. A familiar typical tale in Babylonia states that a mouse who escaped from a mongoose and entered a snake's hole said, "I bring you welcome from the snake-charmer!" In Old Babylonian glyptic art, a creature that resembles a mongoose also makes an appearance, although its significance is unknown.
