This Mother’s Day, we remember Lady Sujata — the woman whose quiet act of kindness became part of Siddhartha Gautama’s journey to enlightenment.

After years of extreme fasting and self-denial, Siddhartha had grown weak and exhausted in his search for truth.

Sujata offered him a simple bowl of milk rice (kheer) prepared with deep care and devotion. Her offering restored his strength and helped him realize the Middle Path — a path of balance, compassion, and wisdom that would lead to his enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree.

Sujata’s story reminds us that nourishment, care, and gentle acts of compassion can hold profound meaning. In many ways, mothers carry this same spirit every day — offering comfort, warmth, and quiet strength that shape the lives around them.
