Hand-painted Traditional Thangka of Yuthok Yonten Gonpo | Meditation Altar
The traditional Thangka of Yuthok Yonten Gonpo is a masterfully hand-painted artwork, created by skilled artists in the Kathmandu Valley. This thangka, which is made of cotton canvas and embellished with elegant acrylic colors and brilliant 24K gold, captures the richness of Himalayan artistry. Yuthok Yonten Gonpo's sacred presence is enhanced by the bright gold details against the dark backdrop, making this piece both aesthetically arresting and spiritually significant as a symbol of enlightened knowledge and healing wisdom.
Yuthok Yonten Gonpo is considered a highly esteemed spiritual master and the founder of Tibetan medicine. Known as the "Father of Tibetan Medicine," he emphasized the harmony of body, mind, and spirit by fusing medical expertise with Buddhist philosophy. The Four Tantras, the foundational books of Tibetan medicine, are based on his teachings. In addition to his contributions to medicine, he is recognized as a realized yogi who used healing techniques, wisdom, and compassion to help practitioners achieve both bodily and spiritual well-being. In Mahayana's Mystic Buddhist tradition, Bhaisajyaguru - also known as the Medicine Buddha - is the deity of healing, as both a source of physical and psychological healing power. Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteshvara (Sanskrit), Kuan Yin (Chinese), Guanyin (Japanese), is regarded as the embodiment of compassion, who is ever present in spirit, who listens to the suffering of others and responds. Yuthok Yonten Gonpo is shown in this thangka sitting calmly and meditatively on a lotus seat, exuding wisdom and authority. A glowing halo highlights his prominent position, and surrounded by deities and symbolic objects, representing his ancestry and teachings.
