Gold on Red, 4 Arms Chenrezig Thangka | Bodhisattva of Compassion and Infinite Mercy

The 4 Arms Chenrezig Thangka, created by Enlightenment Studio in Nepal, is a distinctive piece carefully painted by hand with acrylics and 24K gold. It follows the Nakthang style, a unique Himalayan tradition featuring gold highlights over a rich red background. This sacred Tibetan technique symbolizes compassion and strength through the use of red, while gold is layered to create detailed patterns. The shining gold outlines depict lotus petals, floral scrolls, and divine garments, highlighting Avalokiteshvara's serene and powerful presence.

Avalokiteshvara, a four-armed Chenrezig, exemplifies the infinite compassion exemplified by all Buddhas. His two central hands are joined in Anjali Mudra, grasping a wish-fulfilling crystal that signifies pure intention. His right hand holds a crystal rosary, leading sentient beings toward liberation through mantra recitation, while his left hand bears a fully bloomed lotus, symbolizing the development of wisdom and enlightenment.

The deerskin draped over his shoulder symbolizes gentleness and non-violence. Sitting in the vajra posture, he exudes calmness and benevolence. This thangka serves as a sacred instrument for meditation, devotion, and daily inspiration, functioning as a visual homage to Avalokiteshvara.
