Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava and revered as the Second Buddha, is the legendary founder of the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition. This statue captures him seated in the royal ease pose, blending calm wisdom with a readiness to help all beings. In his left hand, he holds a kapala, symbolizing spiritual richness and triumph over death, while his right hand grips a vajra, representing unbreakable clarity and steadfast wisdom. Leaning on his shoulder is the khatvanga trident, a tantric staff that embodies his control over the three realms and the unity of the Three Kayas—the truth, enjoyment, and emanation bodies. Atop his head sits the iconic lotus hat with a feather, a sign of his enlightened insight and vibrant compassion. This sculpture beautifully conveys Padmasambhava’s powerful yet approachable spirit, inviting you into the heart of Vajrayana’s transformative teachings.
Guru Rinpoche, or Padmasambhava, made a miraculous entrance at just eight years old, emerging fully formed from a blooming lotus in Lake Dhanakosha—a fulfillment of Shakyamuni Buddha’s prophecy. Born not from a mother’s womb but spontaneously, he shone with deep wisdom and boundless compassion. His arrival heralded the birth of Vajrayana Buddhism, earning him the title of the Second Buddha. Known for overcoming fierce demons and spiritual obstacles, he paved the way for Buddhism’s spread by founding Tibet’s first monastery, Samye, and introducing advanced tantric practices. Guru Rinpoche’s teachings blended tantra, mantra, and meditation, laying the groundwork for Tibetan Buddhism’s rich spiritual heritage. His enduring legacy continues to inspire countless seekers on the path to enlightenment.
Introduction To Guru Rinpoche :
Guru Rinpoche was an instrumental figure in Tibetan Buddhism. In Tibetan Buddhism, Padmasambhava's teachings are said to have an oral lineage (kama) and a lineage of the hidden treasure texts (termas). He is said to appear in visionary encounters to tertöns, and his form is visualized during guru yoga practice, particularly in the Nyingma school. He is revered by Buddhists in Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, India's Himalayan states, and other countries around the world.
How Do You Take Care of Your Statues?
- Place them at room temperature, avoiding direct sunlight.
- Make sure that the area where your statue is placed is entirely free of moisture and dust.
- Place it at the highest place on your altar after being consecrated by the Lama/monks. The best practice is to keep them covered inside a glass cabinet.
- Do not use your bare hands or any objects with a rough surface to wipe the face.
- Directly touching objects with the bare hand can smudge the face, leaving scratches.
