Milarepa Brocade Thangka, Tibetan Master Art

In this brocade thangka art, Milarepa, Tibet's most renowned and accomplished Buddhist master, is depicted here. He is pictured seated on animal skin in mountain caves, meditating between the cooking pot and a gorgeous deer. His right hand is raised to his right ear in a listening gesture, while his left-hand holds a skull cup. The cave is surrounded by beautiful green trees and clouds, which gives the practitioner a good feeling.

Since his tremendous compassion prompted Bodhicitta and motivated him to reach Buddhahood to benefit all sentient beings, his life embodies the ideal Bodhisattva.
