Mitrugpa for Shrine Buddha Sculpture of Compassion and Purification

This Mitrugpa for shrine statue, crafted from copper and embellished with 24K gold gilding, is a Buddhist art hand-carved Buddha statue in the traditional Himalayan style.

Mitrugpa is depicted in the lap with his left hand's palm upturned in the meditation gesture. A vajra scepter is typically held upright on the point with the point balanced on the palm. Mitrugpa's vajra scepter represents him as the symbolic Buddha of Tantric Buddhism's Vajra Family. Tantric deities are organized according to these five classifications proposed by the tantric theory.

Mitrugpa or Akshobhya means "unwavering." He is described in Northern Buddhism's Mahayana Sutras and Tantra literature. In paintings and sculptures, he is easily identified by his Buddha-like form, blue body color, and left hand holding an upright vajra scepter. He is a Tantric depiction of Buddha that is commonly adorned with jewels and a crown.
