Why we make water offerings?
We all consider water to be free, abundant and easy to give. The message is that we should always provide all of our offerings the manner we'd offer water.Water offering is symbolic of purification. When we make water offerings, we do it as a way for purifying attachment and miserliness. The Buddha, do not need our offerings, respect, or prostrations. Rather, we do these practices due to the transformative impact they've on our very own mind. We can offer anything we consider beautiful on the altar.
The Seven Bowl represents the seven elements of prayer:
- Prostrating
- Offerings to the Buddhas
- Confessing our wrongs
- Rejoicing in the good qualities of oneself and others
- Requesting for the Buddhas to remain in the world
- Beseeching the Buddhas to teach others
- Dedicating the merits of ourselves and others so that all sentient beings may enjoy happiness and virtue
