Introduction To The Thangka :

The most admired Bodhisattva, Chenrezig, represents all Buddhas' compassion. He is also known as Avalokitesvara, which means "Unwavering Eye," In times of conflict and distress, he hears the cries of all sentient beings. He makes a loving gesture with his two front hands, clasping them in front of his jewel-encrusted heart. He has a crystal akshamala, or rosary, that stands for the endless cycle on his upper right hand. His left hand is holding a white lotus, signifying that he leads aware individuals to higher states of enlightenment by releasing them from terrible locations and muddy streams of suffering. He is dressed in silk and sits on a row of lotus petals with his legs in the "diamond stance" for meditation.

How to take care of your thangka?

-Hang your thangka in a traditional silk brocade
-Regular Inspection of your thangka; examine the borders and all attachments.
-Keep thangkas covered when they are on display but not in use.
-Rotate thangkas between display and storage regularly, two to four times a year, to reduce the amount of exposure to light. Keep away from sunlight and humidity.
-Do not apply liquids or other materials to the surface of the thangka.
