Amitabha Buddha Thangka
Introduction To The Thangka :
Amitabha, particularly in the Pure Land sects of Mahayana Buddhism, is also known as Amitayus, the great savior Buddha. Amitabha is regarded as one of the five "self-born" (Dhyani-buddhas) buddhas who have existed forever in Tibet and Nepal, however he was never as well-liked as a hero figure as he was in East Asia. Due to the lengthy life he bestows, Amitabha is also known as Amitayus, or "Infinite Life."
While the two names are frequently confused in China and Japan, they are never confused in Tibet, where Amitayus is worshipped in a particular rite in order to achieve long life. He is seen holding the ambrosia vase, from which the gems of perpetual life descend, and wearing decorations and a crown on his head.
