Light Offering Butter Lamp

Our butter lamp is made up of silver and is plated with gold. It is finely handcrafted and decorated with the eight auspicious symbols. This is a traditional butter lamp, a ritual implement used in Buddhist temples and monasteries throughout the Himalayan region.

To use the butter lamp fill with oil (coconut, vegetable, or yak butter is recommended)  rolled cotton wicks placed upright in the center hole. Buddhists people often light a large number of butter lamps together at one time on special occasions like full moon day, New moon day.

The butter lamp is usually being placed between the fourth and fifth bowls of seven bowls containing pure water before the image of the household shrine, at funeral ceremonies, or when visiting temples and going on pilgrimage to sacred sites.
