Sacred Traditional Newari Style Stupa - Artifact for Spiritual Spaces
About Our Stupa:
The Sacred Traditional Newari Style Stupa is precisely handcrafted on an oxidized copper body and plated with silver, demonstrating the great skill of Newar artisans. This stupa, which stands 30.5 cm tall, 21.5 cm wide, and weighs 4.04 kg, represents both elegance and spiritual regard. Its strong materials assure endurance, and the silver plating emphasizes its sanctity, making it an ideal centerpiece for any ritual or spiritual environment. In Buddhist practice, stupas are revered as sacred structures that represent enlightenment and the Buddha's teachings, and they are frequently used as centers of meditation and devotion.
The stupa's imagery is profoundly significant, with four unique Buddha statues arranged in four cardinal directions. These Buddhas, Akshobhya in the east, Ratnasambhava in the south, Amitabha in the west, and Amoghasiddhi in the north represent distinct aspects of the enlightened mind and special wisdoms, offering practitioners direction and blessings. This beautiful placement represents the universality of Buddhist teachings and the interconnection of all existence.
Stupas of this type are a hallmark of Newari artistry and can be found at strategic junctions across the Kathmandu Valley. They have a significant position in the Vajrayana Buddhist rituals of the Newar people, who regard them as sources of spiritual strength and protection. Worshippers believe that these stupas emit benefits of peace, compassion, and knowledge, transforming them into not just cultural landmarks but also powerful spiritual conduits for people who respect and protect their holiness.
Introduction To Stupa :
Before Buddhism, great teachers were buried in mounds. Some were cremated but sometimes buried in a seated, meditative position. The mound of earth covered them up. Thus, the domed shape of the stupa came to represent a person seated in meditation, much as the Buddha was when he achieved Enlightenment and knowledge of the Four Noble Truths. The stupa's base represents his crossed legs as he sat meditatively. The middle portion is the Buddha’s body and the top of the mound, where a pole rises from the apex surrounded by a small fence, represents his head. Before images of the human Buddha were created, reliefs often depicted practitioners demonstrating devotion to a stupa.
