Introduction To The Thangka :
The Buddha Feet is a portrayal of the Buddha from the iconic (no statues) period of Buddhist art. Feet have been things that represent the transcendent's anchoring. When Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment, his feet left an imprint in the stone wherever he walked, according to Buddhist mythology. In another account, following his birth, the young Buddha took seven steps to indicate his religious dominion over the cosmos.
Gautama Buddha's footprints represent the Buddha's presence since they are said to be imprints of where Gautama Buddha genuinely touched the earth. At the same time, the Buddha Feet represent the Buddha's absence now that he has attained nirvana, and are thus a reminder of the Buddhist ideal of non-attachment.
How to take care of your thangka?
-Hang your thangka in a traditional silk brocade
-Regular Inspection of your thangka; examine the borders and all attachments.
-Keep thangkas covered when they are on display but not in use.
-Rotate thangkas between display and storage on a regular basis, two to four times a year, to reduce the amount of exposure to light. Keep away from sunlight and humidity.
-Do not apply liquids or other materials to the surface of the thangka.
