Precious Master Guru Rinpoche Thangka | Easing Royal Posture
13 Inches Precious Master Guru Rinpoche Thangka with Khatvanga | Karma Gadri Style
Precious Master Guru Rinpoche Thangka, who introduced Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet, is shown in this thangka, which is painted in our Enlightenment Studio. It is rendered in the traditional Karma Gadri Style, made on cotton canvas using acrylic colors and embellished with 24K gold. In the royal ease pose (Lalitasana), Guru Rinpoche is shown in a vajra posture, holding a vajra and a skull cup.
The vajra, a representation of unbreakable compassion and enlightened action, is in his right hand. In his left hand, he holds a skull cup full of nectar, symbolizing the transformation of negative emotions into wisdom. On one side rests the khatvanga staff, which represents the conversion of the three poisons—ignorance, desire, and aversion—into transcendent wisdom. It is capped with three severed heads and a trident. The figure, seated on a lotus seat in bloom and encircled by a rainbow aureole and a bright halo, exudes enlightened vitality and heavenly presence.
