Painted on handmade cotton canvas using traditional techniques, this sacred artwork reflects the patience, devotion, and precision of Nepalese thangka workmanship. The prepared cotton canvas offers a smooth and durable surface for delicate brushwork, balanced composition, and refined iconographic detail. Acrylic colors bring depth, clarity, and vibrancy to the painting, while gold colors enhance sacred ornaments, decorative motifs, and important visual elements with a luminous finish. Together, these materials create a visually rich composition that honors one of the most meaningful moments in Buddhist tradition. This sacred artwork also reflects the deeper cultural and spiritual value of traditional thangka painting.

Buddha's Parinirvana represents the final moment of Lord Buddha’s earthly life when he attained complete liberation from the cycle of birth and death (samsara). It is not seen as death in the ordinary sense but as the ultimate realization of Nirvana—where all karma, attachment, and suffering are fully transcended. It is viewed as the supremacy of Nirvana, where all karma, attachment, and sorrow are completely transcended, rather than death in the conventional sense. According to Buddhist tradition, this sacred rite took place while the Buddha lay calmly on his right side between two Sal trees, surrounded by celestial beings, monks, and disciples who had come to attend his last lesson on liberation and impermanence. Parinirvana is often depicted with the Buddha reclining in a calm and serene posture, symbolizing perfect stillness, compassion, and wisdom at the moment of departure. His gesture conveys a profound sense of serenity, demonstrating that emancipation is a state of complete freedom beyond all material constraints rather than a depressing one. In order to convey the broad significance of his passing and the continuation of his teachings, attendants such as weeping followers, Bodhisattvas, and deities are depicted surrounding him. This potent imagery reminds us that enlightenment is possible and that all conditioned existence is ultimately fleeting.

DRAWN AS MENTIONED IN THE MEDITATION MANUAL

-------------------------------------------------------------
Size: 17"/43 cm (width) x 20"/50 cm (height)
Materials: Cotton Canvas, Gold Colors, Acrylic Colors
-------------------------------------------------------------

THIS THANGKA IS HAND-PAINTED IN THE TRADITIONAL STYLE BY A NEPALI ARTIST, AND THE QUALITY IS HIGH

CONSECRATION OF THANGKA

As per your request for consecrations/blessings, we can take the thangka to nearby monasteries or Rinpoches from the Boudha Stupa.
